Training in Abortion Care Residency - California
In a climate where abortion care is becoming increasingly less accessible nationwide, and fundamental healthcare rights face persistent attacks, NSRH remains steadfast in our commitment to creating a world where all people have access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH). In the face of these challenges to reproductive rights, California has launched the Reproductive Health and Services Corps (RHSC) to safeguard and enhance access to reproductive healthcare. The RHSC consortium develops and implements evidence-based abortion care training programs and strategies with a reproductive justice lens for the entire team of healthcare professionals. As part of this consortium and our commitment to expanding comprehensive SRH education, NSRH is launching Training in Abortion Care Residency (TAC) for California nurses.

About
As the nation’s only abortion training residency designed specifically for nurses, the goal of this residency is to develop robust cohorts of nurses who are equipped to provide comprehensive SRH healthcare and advocate for expanded access in their communities. In our California cohort, the TAC Residency accomplishes this through a four month program of self-paced education, facilitated virtual group discussions and advocacy-building workshops. Participants will receive a $1,000 stipend to help offset the costs incurred from participating. As this program also aims to build local advocates, residents must live in California at the time of application. See the FAQ section for more details.
Advocacy Workshops
This residency will include advocacy workshops to build skills and knowledge and influence positive change in the world of abortion and reproductive health. This is accomplished through regular workshops and opportunities to learn with sector leaders in the state.
Group Learning and Community Building
TAC educates residents with comprehensive knowledge on the broader issues surrounding abortion care, SRH and Reproductive Justice. Through bi-monthly group sessions, residents engage with content area experts to gain deeper insights into their local abortion access landscape and understand the unique barriers faced by specific patient populations seeking patient-centered care. Beyond education, we also foster meaningful community connections within the cohort and facilitate valuable networking opportunities with NSRH partners.
Independent Study
Each month residents will complete a unique package of education to enhance their ability to advocate and provide abortion care from an evidence-based lens. This is a combination of webinars, academic journals, and interactive modules that residents will complete, self-paced, through our Online Institute or Learning Hub.
